Bronze Dofe Expeditions for Schools
Badger Adventures is one of the leading companies delivering Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE expeditions.
At Badger Adventures, we provide DofE expeditions all over the UK, from Exmoor and Dartmoor to Lake District and the North York Moors. The Bronze programs we will come and work in an area near your school, (up to an hour away) and deliver a safe, well organised expedition for students, teachers and parents.
Badger Adventures have all the correct insurances and certificates, AALA License No.L13835, Provider Number R2143 and we are an approved accredited provider for the DofE Award Scheme.
We provide packages tailored to the school, finding out what teachers and parents are looking for with the logistics, and tailoring the package. We provide friendly and knowledgeable instructors, all with the correct qualifications so that we provide confidence and can train your students/groups to bring them to a standard to move safely through the countryside/mountain.
Training Day – Badger Adventures will visit your school to provide a route planning session for your D of E Bronze practice expedition. Food and kit sessions will also be provided.
Practice Expedition

| 1 | Arrive at the start early, where the instructors/supervisors will check the participants food and kit and distribute group kit. The group will then walk to camp, with the instructor delivering Navigation Skills and Emergency Procedures on the way. |
| 2 | The group will then execute the rest of their route, with the instructor remote supervising them. When the group arrive at the end, they will clean and return the group kit, the instructor will debrief the group, and then its time to head home. |

Training Day – Bronze DofE
Training Day Bronze D of ESchool-based delivery, all sessions are between an hour and 1 hour 15mins. Food and Stoves Session This session is designed to give the students insight on what food to bring for their Bronze DofE. We base the session on 5 criteria, weight, packaging, energy, ease of cooking, and flavour and tastiness. We bring some food to the session so the students can see packaging, size, energy values from the back of the packets, etc. We then produce a menu plan so they have some evidence to remind themselves of the session when the students attend the expedition. Stoves session ( if there is time else we can deliver on the practice expedition) is to get the students used to the stoves we use, the robust Trangia. The most we get the students to do on the training day is to make hot chocolate, lots of safety lessons to be taught in this small session, lighting the stove, handle management ( everything is hot), and pouring hot liquids to name a few. Kit Session The kit session is designed to introduce the styles of kit that the students need to keep themselves warm and dry. The badger instructor will show different types of kit fleece compared to a hoodie for example, and discuss all the pros and cons. We understand that all the kit costs money, and to buy it new would cost a lot of money, so we can advise that sports jogging bottoms are ok to wear, instead of walking trousers, however, cotton jogging bottoms are not so good to use as they get wet and heavy, and keep you cold when they are wet. The session will talk through sleeping bags, roll mats, eating utensils, and then how to pack a rucksack. Badger Adventures supply group kit, Tents, Stoves, Gas, Maps, Group shelter, and group first aid kit. Introduction to Maps Session This session is designed to give the students an introduction to Grid References, Symbols, rights of way, safe routes, man-made v nature features, etc. Tents Session ( optional this can be delivered on the practice) If the school has a green space we can use then we can the students practicing with the Badger Tents that they would use on their Bronze DofE expeds.
All sessions are backed up with a kit and packing brochure, food and stoves brochure, and a Badger Bronze DofE kit list, so the students do not need to take notes. |
